SOURCE: Book,"The Van Hoose, Van Hooser, Van Huss Family in the United S tates" by Joyce Lindstom. He moved with his father to Madison Co., Illino is in 1812 an helped his father found the "Hooser Settlement" as it was c alled in those early days. This was located south of the present town o f Troy in Jarvis Township, Madison co., Illinois. When his father died i n 1834, he went to Grayson Co., Virginia and sold 200 acres of land his f ather still owned. He, died Dec 1835 in Madison Co., Ill. He left a wil l in Madison Co., Ill. which is as follows:

!WILL: In the name of God, Amen, I Valentine Van Hooser of Madison Count y and State of Illinois, being low in health and weak in body, though o f sound mind and memory, recollecting that is is appointed unto man onc e to die, and feeling that time of my departure is probably near at hand , do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, revoking all forme r wills by me at any time made. Afte commending my soul to God who gave i t and my body to my friends to be decently buried.
First, I give and bequeath to my beloved WIFE SARAH after paying all my j ust an lawful debts all my lands and tenements together will all my perso nal goods and effects as follows (to Wit)
To hold and enjoy all my lands and tenements, with the rents and profit s arisin there from for the support of herself and family during her natu ral lifetime. And my personal property after my debts are paid, I want h er to keep so much thereof as she may thing necessary for the support o f the family. And the balance sell at public venue and put the money ari sing therefrom to interest or use it as she may have need. And give to M ARTHA, KATHARINE, AND DELILAH as the severly become of age each of them o ne cow and calf, two head of sheep, and one bed with the furniture.
And to ABRAHAM, MY ONLY SON, the horse, bridle and saddle, hogs which h e now claims to be his own. And at the decease of my wife I will that m y personal estate to be equially divided amongst all my children then liv ing or having heirs.
And my land as follows (towit) Abraham is to have the North half of the N orthwest quarter of Section #23 in Township 3 North of Range Seven west o f the third principal Meridian. And the balance of my land lying in th e Section abov described to be equally divided between all my daughters e xcept Mary Sample, to whom I give Fifty Dollars to buy land with. But i n case she should not make th purchase as contemplated, and should retai n the money, Abraham is to have the money to enter land for himself, an d in that case he is only to have the West half of the above land set of f to him, which will take the buildings and orchar and the other half t o revert to my daughters and Mary Sample is to share equall with them. A nd my other quarter of the land which is the North West quarter of Sectio n #13 Town and Range as above is to be equally divided between all my chi ldren.
I nominate and appoint Sarah my wife sole executrix of this my last wil l and testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and se al this 22nd day of November A.D. 1835.
